YANG Cheng 楊誠

YANG Cheng (b. 1989, Taiwan) is a Berlin-based composer, experimental sound performer and user experience designer. His work explores the concealed questions within existing answers, composing listening decisions where sound also chooses to listen back.

His practice encompasses electroacoustic improvisation, multi-channel sound installation and experimental music composition. His sonic articulation forms from gravity objects, field recordings, feedback noises, analog radio, bluetooth speaker and electromagnetic fields.

Compass 2733NW

+ 4 Channel Sound & Movement Performance
I found a spiral object in a junkyard at old Bohemian farm and felt drawn to it without knowing why. I slept beside it under the stars and woke to a deer watching us. Later I learned it once heated milk, tied to stories of land and staying. That moment became the start of a research guided by bodily intuition. A compass began to form from within.

Ü

+ Spatial Electro Acoustic Noise
“Ü” is a sound performance in which noise is steered by hand, drifting between front and back speaker placement, left and right movement control, inside a narrow corridor.
Feedback is generated using two Bluetooth speakers  in hands, interacting with a contact microphone attached to a metal plate. Two loudspeakers are placed at the front and back of a long, narrow corridor.

KahrabaDián 電كهربا

+ Sound & Movement Performance
Granular Magnetism is an experiment exploring multimodal gravity points. Each point generates  organic cardinal directions. Naser Al Deen and Yang navigate a pool of these infinite trajectories powered by electromagnetic sparks. The point of collision is a point of decision. The point of decision is a space for potential negotiation. The space for negotiation is where this experiment aspires to arrive at.

Egress Gateway

+ Feedbakc noise concert
During the residency at Torhaus Gallery, I didn’t really plan a piece. Someone brought a guitar amp, I have three Bluetooth speakers and an some mics, staying at ring fire and hearing the news of forest fire at the time. Thinking of how to travel with sound in this electromagnetic forest.

Dust In

+ Sound Installation / live intervention
I wandered through the forest, collecting dust and thinking about where it might have come from and where it could be going. I made some field recordings and noticed how present the human voice still was, even there. I found a metal plate and started resonating it with noise. Sand like patterns slowly appeared on the surface.

Dust to fire, fabric to water, wire to echo, electricity to silence.

When fish fishing you

+ 6 channel Sound Performance
When you are fihsing, fish is also fishing you back.
Was kind of a joke around bonfire. then eventullay devolpe the idea of sound fishing.

While the feeback noise contiune, how do I cathc the sound fish, then relase it into 5 channel sound enviirment.

Pulse Taiwan

+ Field Recording Music Piece
Traveling back to my island home. I did a lot of field recording trips around Taiwan.
Instead of convensitonal set up of field recoridng.
I enjoy more listening with both of my palm with micorphone attatched. its always trigger a reflection, when of your body start moving futther, you realize whats traping you.
